The role: Senior Internal Controls Auditor
We are looking for a Senior Internal Controls Auditor to join our busy and dynamic team based in our Toronto Office.
You will be assisting the Internal Controls team in building a best practice, world class SOX function. Specifically, you’ll have responsible for working with the Senior Manager to plan, execute, and review activities in support of the companies SOX and other financial reporting compliance requirements.
You’ll be someone who is comfortable travelling 40-60% of your role across our different offices. This role will require travel.
We’ll want you to identify and document in-scope processes and internal controls to assess adequacy of design, mitigation of risk in accordance with Internal Control methodology and standards. You’ll design and execute sample-based testing of internal controls, assess adequacy and compliance with policies, where applicable, and report findings to management.
You can expect to build excellent working relationships and rapport with applicable Management at all levels, to include external partners and auditors. We’ll want you to provide expertise in common in-scope SOX business processes by consulting with Management and providing recommendations on best practices to help mitigate financial reporting and compliance risks.
You are likely to be tasked with following up with appropriate business process owners to ensure proper implementation of remediation activities and agreed upon management actions plans to address internal control deficiencies. We’ll also ask for you to assist with annual planning and scoping activities, as well as interim reporting to Management and Committees.
Who are we looking for:
We’re looking for you to have a Finance/Accounting designation, such as CA/CPA or equivalent, with most likely around 4-6 years or more overall relevant business experience in finance/accounting, with primary focus in internal or external audit on a public company.
You’ll be able to showcase technical abilities in application of ICFR, COSO, IFRS, SEC & PCAOB pronouncements.
In terms of you as a person, you’ll have unquestionable integrity and ethics. You’ll be someone who has excellent communication, interpersonal, and project management skills. As well as an inquisitive and analytical mind.
You’ll be someone with strong documentation and organizational skills, including ability to handle demands from multiple sources amidst tight deadlines.
As the ideal candidate, you will have:
Most likely you have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. You have built up public accounting experience, we really consider that a definite asset (e.g. “Big 4” exposure). You’ll have practical knowledge of requirements related to internal controls & financial reporting as explained in the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
Ideally, if you have gaming and/or technology industry experience, that’s also an asset.
We’ll want you to have an ability to travel 40-60% of the time.
