The role: Senior Commercial Legal Counsel (Associate Director)

We are looking for a Senior Commercial Legal Counsel (Associate Director) to join our busy and dynamic team based in our Leeds Office.

Reporting directly to, and working with, the Director of Legal Affairs, you will oversee a diverse commercial legal team and process, within the UK and other jurisdictions, and manage a wide range of commercial and corporate transactions, within the UK and globally.

You’ll be working directly with the Group’s internal business personnel and external counsel (where appropriate) to manage and develop the UK and wider commercial team, manage and support on a wide range of commercial and corporate agreements including, but not limited to, media, marketing, IT, IP, sponsorship, endorsement, live event, group company, joint venture and corporate/M&A agreements. The position sits within a growing legal team that will provide excellent opportunities for career progression as the business and team grows.

Working with the Director of Legal Affairs you’ll be tasked with:

• Providing a first-class legal advice to all Group departments requiring legal advice on commercial and corporate issues/transactions
• overseeing and managing a diverse team of lawyers and paralegals
• reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial and corporate contracts/transactions
• developing the group commercial process, including, in connection with the Group procurement function identifying and implementing new technologies and processes.
• assisting in integrating legal teams across multiple acquired businesses
• Independently managing and running complex commercial transactions
• Developing and maintaining relationships with third party law firms and internal business personnel
• Working closely with marketing and finance teams to provide legal direction and advice
• Contributing to review and improvement of processes on ongoing basis

Who are we looking for:

You’ll be a qualified lawyer with a minimum of 8 years PQE in private practice within the commercial or corporate department at a nationally recognised law firm or in-house at company which is has a significant e-commerce or digital/online presence. You’ll be able to show proven experience in managing and negotiating of a wide range of complex commercial and corporate transactions as well as excellent professional written skills with first class attention to detail. We’re looking for someone who has excellent organizational skills, ability to lead complicated projects with senior level stakeholders and someone who has high levels of self-motivation, with an ability to work autonomously and manage your own work load.
Ideally, you’ll have experience with internet betting/gaming, whether in-house or in private practice. In addition, it could be beneficial to have experience in law in multiple jurisdiction, including cross-border and international transactions.
