The role: Product Owner – WEB Frameworks

We are looking for a Product Owner – WEB Frameworks to join our busy and dynamic Product Management team in our Richmond Hill, Toronto office.

You will be passionate about Technology with the energy to continuously improve yourself and the ecosystem around you. This role sits at the heart of our WEB products and technology team owning the vision of the WEB framework and its delivery against the roadmap.

You will be building and refining product backlog(s), proactively managing short, medium and long term product roadmaps in line with business objectives and goals. A need to work with other project managers, product managers, and/or project sponsors to support business projects and deliverables, prioritizing release scope and dates, and monitor and report on progress is important. As is the need to define, prioritise, and clarify requirements; work with others to understand use cases, features, acceptance criteria, business and technical domain rules and overall product goals.

You’ll need to accept or reject the delivery team’s work results; ensuring development decisions stay aligned with business needs, and any issues that arise are addressed as quickly as possible. While providing day-to-day tactical objectives, and quick JIT decisions to system level questions and defect triage. This role requires you to collaborate with the Scrum Master to run successful sprint planning sessions, as well as backlog refinement sessions, sprint reviews and retrospectives.

You will be gathering requirements and aggregate input from stakeholders and others, construct user stories and acceptance criteria, prioritize stories per their business value and technical effort, using business driven development (BDD) methodology and Gherkin syntax. A need to work closely with User research, UX, and UI teams, focusing on the experience to ensure the product serves our customers in a way that is welcoming, intuitive, engaging and safe is important for this role.

The ability to understand the technical architecture of existing systems and components so that business needs can be translated via user stories for development, ensuring that application releases satisfy definition of done (DoD) is key. You’ll define, monitor and react to key performance indicators (KPIs) and use data for assessing value and implementing each new framework capability using varying methods to translate into user stories with specific, measurable, attainable and testable acceptance criteria.

A need to ensure milestones are reached and deadlines are met throughout project lifecycle, document progress and communicate to upper management and stakeholders, while building strong relationships with stakeholders, framework users, and program/project owners is crucial.

Who are we looking for:-

You will have a relevant university degree (or equivalent) and previous demonstrative technical product ownership or product design experience. This role required previous experience with Agile/SCRUM methodology/ tools e.g. JIRA and driving Agile teams and management to decisions. A need to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences as important, as is having an analytical mindset to maintain a data driven approach to problem solving and decision making.

You’ll have technical aptitude including experience working with API based products, and abilities to speak to both product and technology stakeholders. As well as, an eagerness to work in a team to solve problems but without requiring micromanagement.

You will have previous experience of building a complex product from scratch and gone through the full cycle at least once, not just added functionality and features. While also being able to demonstrate, product management experience from a fast-moving environment. As we are an international business the need to work and support the team outside of standard working hours may arise.

As the ideal candidate, you will have:-

Experience with business-driven development (BDD), writing features in Gherkin syntax and producing user stories is desirable. Awareness and experience with widely successful Agile techniques: user stories, ATDD, TDD, continuous integration, continuous testing, pairing, automated testing, agile games is also a plus.
