We are looking for a Lead Solutions Architect to join our busy and dynamic team based in our Leeds service office.

Why we need you: -

We’re looking for you to join and become the technical subject matter expert for particular products and services and, via solution designs, be the design authority for new and existing services. You’ll communicate the business goals, constraints and risks to the delivery team members, so that they can build and operate the systems and services that support and deliver the tribe’s business goals and address the constraints and risks that are present.

Together with other technology leaders, you’ll deliver and communicate an architectural vision and roadmap for the tribe that is understood and supported by the whole business and that provides clear, achievable principles and direction for the technology team to follow.

We’ll look for you to communicate the key facts, risks and assumptions to enable the heads of function in a tribe to understand and make decisions for the products and services you represent.

 As well as carrying out the role of a Solutions Architect you will be involved in:

  • Line management of other Solutions Architects
  • Working to continuously improve the architecture teams’ ways of working and processes.
  • Driving the creation of Tech Radars in each of the areas and their guidelines for use
  • Drive the creation and maintenance of city plans
  • Mentoring Solutions Architects on how to be more effective
  • Defining the process for architectural communication/sign-off and peer review
  • Working with Heads/Directors within GSTP to define:
    • How the architecture processes fit within the delivery and product processes
    • How the architecture processes fit within the service/operational processes
  • Help architecture skills matrixes for both developing existing SA’s and helping define the architecture career path for existing technology staff
  • Evangelizing/L&D/Architecture concepts to wider GSTP teams
  • Helping define / Evangelizing Architecture principles within GSTP and their alignment with the wider architecture community
  • Identifying / sharing best practices
  • Promoting more structured capture/communication of Architecture Decision Records
  • Promoting the creation and running Chapter / Guild working groups for wider company architectural alignment / best practices

 Who are we looking for: -

You’ll be an individual who can provide technical leadership to the tribe’s technical teams. You’ll be constantly keeping up-to-date with emerging technologies and architectural approaches and promote alignment between technology and business strategy. You are someone who wants to collaborate with other architects within your and other areas of the business to help define our architectural principles, vision, lifecycle and underlying framework. You’ll have an awareness of current architectural trends and developments within the market, particularly patterns and technologies being used within GSTP and the wider Stars Group. You can provide governance and technical leadership to ensure the products and services you are involved with are aligned with the design goals as well as working with business stakeholders to help identify business goals and align IT strategy. You will play a key part in develop the tribe’s technology road map and to gain commitment for architecture initiatives so having an exposure to collaboration with other teams promoting inter-operability of data across products/teams is beneficial.

You will have experience in an Agile development culture, be comfortable with high volume, highly available, transactional web applications. Similarly, Modelling, measuring and forecasting capacity as well as Message based architectures.

In terms of technical skills, while experience with all (or even any) of the items listed below is not essential, it is clearly beneficial and ideally we'd look for you to be able to demonstrate experience in a number of the list below :

  • Designing for scalability
  • Relational and non-relational datastores
  • Service based approaches (e.g. REST, SOA, Microservices)
  • Network and web application security
  • General understanding of datacentre technologies (SAN, blades, virtualisation etc)
  • Automated Testing (especially BDD toolkits), Continuous Integration and Deployment
  • JS, Java, Kotlin, React
  • Kafka
  • Kubernetes, Docker
  • MySQL / RDBMS
  • NoSQL, document DB Dynamo/Mongo
  • Linux
  • AWS - SQS/SNS/Dynamo, Serverless
  • Content networking (e.g. F5 BigIP, SteelApp, Varnish, Nginx)

As the ideal candidate : -

You'll have worked in the Betting and Gaming industry, but that's just an added benefit, but not essential for this role.
